Council (assembling the member state governments) is opaque, but the directly elected European Parliament is quite transparent – more so than most national ones. Both have to agree to any Commission proposal, so theoretically being able to follow and influence one gives us, the public, veto power no matter the failings of the other. You're absolutely right about the media. |
