Good spam filters, tags instead of folders, and a lot of storage were the features Gmail brought to the table, for free, that made it so popular. It was also a nicer web interface than the competition -- so nice that it managed to get a lot of people to use it instead of desktop mail clients, which were the norm at the time. |
