I did think about that. Though, as a driver, you're supposed to leave enough room for this to happen, I know that's not reality so point taken. With early enough 'im confused', perhaps it can just blare an alarm and disable auto drive. Still, given the option between the two, I'd choose come to a stop vs any alternative. It's what a human would do if they lost all visibility.

As a human who has driven in central valley fog? it's not what most humans do. I personally pull over if I can't see two seconds ahead while going above 45, because most people are still going 65-75mph even when you cant see the lines on the road 20 yards in front of you.

I'm also uncomfortable with that, afraid someone will plow into me. But that's better than plowing into someone else, I think (though again, I think I'm not in the majority in that assessment.)

One thing I often do is wait for a tractor trailer to pass me... then I follow them just close enough to keep their taillights in view, on the theory that I can probably stop faster than they can, and they are lit up pretty well, so I can see them further than I can see other cars.

I'd consider that low visibility, not 0. But still a good use case. I'm in an area where the weather this year has been unreal. Twice I left my house, to have every window in my car fog to 0 visibility. You feel lost, you panic, you slam the brakes. Only then do you roll the windows down and slowly make your way to the side to defrost. Also note, both times I was in a hurry and it was completely my fault. Still, it was the first time I realized what 0 visibility was.
