Facebook Replacement Prediction
2 points by soundpuppy 3001 days ago
Prediction: Whatever takes place of Facebook will be government sponsored. Facebook has a whole lot to do with peoples identity and news they see day in and day out. Should the replacement be offered on a partisan level, it would become popular either-way. The GOP has just about as many fan boys as do the Dems so if either party introduced a solution, it would take off. But it doesn't have to be a partisan project. We, the people, can do this ourselves.

It has the potential to solve many issues at once: online voting: social security replacement with national ID, hell even a global privacy setting that is opt out by default, but gives you total control over your data to advertisers.

Who's with me?! We could submit to YC this fall which gives plenty of time to plan it out.

Have you tried https://plus.google.com?
Of course. But I don't see what you're getting at unless you're just suggesting a government sponsored solution would go the same way as Google+. I would argue otherwise - infact I do see a similarity in Google+ and the proposed FedBook: The members were already there to start. Having citizenship automatically gives you an account. However with FedBook, users would have more than just a social media account, it would be a platform to vote and can be as powerful as we want. Family trees can even be mapped out. All on the taxpayer without the need to sell data.
We can call it FedBook.
