They are forced to comply at that point - they've had 2 years to get ready. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens. Actual compliance I strongly suspect is going to depend on whether they enforce it - and actually levy a fine of 4% of total annual revenue against a significant company. Apropos nothing, I remember reading an article a few years ago about how Facebook was using blue ray disks for long term storage. Now if I was responsible for this thing, I would wait 6 months or so, and then tell all the Data Protection Authorities that their bonuses were directly linked to revenue from enforcement ... and sit back and watch the fun. |
