I'd agree if he didn't say that he doesn't agree with what he said, or that he said it to be 'provocative'. I get that he's probably under a ton of pressure right now to get rid of the thing he said, but there's clearly a guilty conscience there.

Well, did he post an equally strong, unambiguous retraction and ensure it reached all the people the original post did?

He could have taken strong steps to undo this memo, if he really regretted it and didn't agree with what it says.

To me it looks like the "guilty conscience" of someone simply trying to evade consequences.

Would you have believed it? I think people would just dismiss it as PR.
