You can take the entire Trump lineage for a very notable and public example. Trump Sr. held Trump Jr. under his thumb, Trump Jr. holds Ivanka et al. under his thumb.

As long as the person that helped you get to where you are today is still in "power," you're indebted until he loses his throne.
