Fantastic article! This is precisely why founders that are novices in their industry sometimes come up with the really big ideas. As counter-intuitive as it is, it’s easier to see the duct tape when you’re looking with fresh eyes.

I wonder if fresh eyes don’t see the “stigma” of a duct tape approach; rather seeing a good-enough solution for now that’ll work. Instead of agonizing over a better way to do it, they implement and get on with it.

I think more senior engineers fall into the trap of seeing the maintenance burdens ahead and not wanting to, or not being able to, make the call to use the duct tape.
