Ask HN: Online courses with good content and instructors
2 points by esalogika 3022 days ago
Hello,

I figured this would be a frequently asked question, and I used the search, but the only threads I could find were more generic and were asked several years ago.

I work at an Enterprise company developing primarily on Java. My company has given me(and our team members) a good opportunity to spend some of our time on taking new courses and they would also pay for the courses.

I don't take courses regularly, but I take them on and off at times on whim and I have been burned before where I pay for a course, but the content doesn't get better as I progress through the course and it quickly changes from "interesting" to "dumping knowledge" midway through the course. I understand this is highly subjective and varies from person to person, but it was okay because I progressed more than I would have without the course.

Now that I don't really have any courses that I am totally interested in at the moment, and because I will have to select a few of them soon(read quickly), I would like to ask you guys if you have come across any courses that have good content and present the content without it starting to rush to get to the end around midway? This is not my only criteria, but any courses you have liked are also welcome.

Without giving out too much info, our shop develops software that runs in the cloud and should process data in near real time, so, any courses related to cloud, devops, containers, micro services architecture, security are a plus. I am allowed to choose something out of our regular purview, but related to software and computing, and I'm considering a machine learning primer(I know it is a very broad topic), so, machine learning courses are also welcome.

I would prefer answers from those who have finished the entire course and liked it. Cheers!
