I view this as a $1.8 million dollar tax for owning a home in Silicon Valley. The average house in Michigan sold in 2017 for $118 per square foot or a little over $100K for a house that size. Even in a nice affluent Michigan suburb with great schools I couldn't see paying over double that amount. I was just out in the Valley a few weeks ago.
