One of our hiring managers uses HackerRank as a basic filter. (If you are applying for a position called Data Scientist and you cannot do a linear regression, you are applying at the wrong company.)

I think an email like this would be just fine, for them.

I think it would go over badly at companies where HR runs the hiring process.
