It was anything but equal. My mother was well connected to a manager of a major supermarket, so instead of waiting in line for hours for a loaf of bread, she could go in the back door of the store. My family were also property owners, so their wealth was not diminished as rapidly as the rest of the economy (though it certainly was diminished). Hyperinflation is not a route I recommend if greater equality is what you seek :) |
