Actually BuzzFeed has recently been doing some excellent investigative and long-form journalism. Surprising turnaround; kind of like Vice.
The BBC article (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-42755832) made the point that this system would have stopped Buzzfeed being able to make that change (to the extent they'd still rely on FB traffic):

I'm not really sure what the answer to this is - but they are really good now and would definitely have been perma-black-holed before now by many measures I can think of.

True; but as of 2014, they had the dubious honor of being untrusted by both Dems and Repubs.
