No I said decent. A president will get a better than decent speech writer [1], but the writer doesn't make policy. The president has to have a distinct, clear opinion about policy, and a good writer makes it convincing and evokes an emotional response in the listener. And then a president makes the delivery. [1 Barack Obama was a little unique among recent presidents in that he wrote most of his own speeches. |
