It's hard to evaluate this without context. What was wrong? What were independent repair shops offering?

The LCD panel had cracked, digitizer was fine.

Long story short, the quickest, easiest fix is to replace the entire display + chassis.

In Singapore I was quoted $500sgd but I wasn't sure how long I was hanging around for so I didn't want to risk it.
