I find the problem with development "methodologies" are the people implementing them. Frequently the Agile Master or someone who has read the book and granted a certification but doesn't understand the subtleties of company culture, team capabilities or project etc. They just want the "process" to be followed.

Methodologies help. But ultimately there is no methodology that lets you make money, deliver products that buyers want, outsmart your competition, eliminate team/corporate politics and so on.

I don't know why people buy into the "when we'll be agile enough, everything's going to be ok; until then let us use this whip and self-flagelate for not being agile enough:

Those people are like lift coaches for software development. It sounds good, but essentially worthless after the first two weeks.
