This article sums up what I think is wrong with "kids today" in software engineering. It's supposed to be hard, you're supposed to have to figure out confusing errors, powerful tools require understanding and configuration, and nobody is supposed to be there to catch you.

Why? Is there any particular reason why software should be hard to use? There are no spikes on my kitchen knife's handle.

I'd rather spend more time creating software than fighting with the build system or the tooling.

Hard to make, not use. It is because it is. Maybe I should have said "It's not supposed to be easy"
"It's supposed to be hard"

No, it's not. This false machismo doesn't help anyone, and just serves to try and keep people out of the industry.

It's not false machismo. I'm stuck a lot. I just don't have any expectations that it's someone else's fault.
