I maintain the list of offline Hacker News communities.[1]

I have one Japan group.[2] Is it you guys? Otherwise, I'd like to add your permanent page to the list.

Hi there! Thanks for doing this.

Yes, confirmed - however we announce the meetups on these pages:

Meetup.com https://www.meetup.com/Hacker-News-Tokyo-Japan/

Doorkeeper https://hntokyo.doorkeeper.jp/

What are the meetups usually like, content-wise? Another user commented that they seem more like mixers -- is there any scheduled content at all?
We have announcements in the middle for around 15 minutes where anyone can stand up and say something to everyone.

Aside from that, it’s a pretty free flowing, friendly mixer event.

I went to this event a year or two ago, I happened to be passing through japan. It's a very friendly event, real mix of different tech / startup presentations. Would highly recommend it if you're in the area :)
Curious, because HN discussions are mainly in English: are conversations mostly in English or Japanese?

How's the ratio of locals to foreigners?

Almost all participants are English speakers. Typically 70 or so of the participants are non-Japanese.
I've updated your links. Thanks!
The Kansai one was really good, felt more tech focused and had great talks when I went.

The Tokyo meetup was more of a mixer last time I attended. Personally didn’t enjoy it as much.

I've not been to the Tokyo meetups, but I certainly enjoyed the HN Kansai meetup. I met some interesting people hacking on (somewhat niche) fun things - game dev, web design, cryptocurrency, etc. Definitely recommend it!
Thanks for doing this! I've created a meetup for Munich, feel free to add it to your list: https://www.meetup.com/Hacker-News-Munich/
