I've been an interface designer for web and mobile apps for about 6-7 years now. I really want to design interfaces in this sort of context (flight, space flight, ground control, etc). Any advice?

Just apply. Most of the designers I worked with didn't come in with prior experience in space tech, nor did I as an engineer.
