Talk more. You guys should both be giving honest feedback to each other. Figure out how you can do more of that in a way that strengthens the relationship, by communicating both respect (you clearly believe he can be valuable in areas other than coding) and your needs (you think the company would benefit more from him focusing on testing the value proposition and growing sales than on directly implementing features).
