The problem is not just inequality in of itself; it's the scale of that inequality that's a problem. When 1/4 to 1/3 of the population is vulnerable to a health accident or can't provide for themselves/their family, AND half of the country's wealth goes to ~ 2% of the population, we have an inequality of many orders of magnitude. What it boils down to is this: do we as a society simply write off those who struggle to meet basic human needs, or do we try to help them live? |
