At my university it was the same, but this (second) class has become an optional elective that is cross-listed with the Computer Engineering major and no longer required. So, most CS majors no longer take it. The curriculum has "drifted" somewhat I'd say, to be a bit higher level, and perhaps more useful to people who go on to be developers at the application level.
