Agreed, although I think this case shows a different problem - it's not a tech news site but a university press release. University press has a horrible tendency to oversell research in the name of getting news coverage, often completely burying possible flaws or limitations of the result. The University of Maryland infamously put out a major release on concussion treatment based on a study that didn't exist (1). Similar but lesser abuses appear to be almost constant.
