I don't buy that at all. It seems much more likely that consciousness is an emergent property of a neural network with the right feedback mechanisms in place and probably with some close tie in with language. Poke someone in the brain and consciousness changes, take a tiny bit of LSD and consciousness changes - it's not a magical property. |
