It uses mutter as its window manager, which is based on metacity and uses the clutter toolkit (hardware accelerated UI). It replaces compiz but seems to have much less eye candy. Remember, metacity is the WM for the grown up! So gnome-shell will require a GPU (should work on the Intel GMA), but have the side effect of not working in virtual machines. |
