Put on your tin foil hats, but think about it:

- BTC terrified the established finance community and governments as it upended the way currency traditionally operated. I.e. Controlled by the government and traditional finance community.

- it also stoked interest in the established financial community and governments. As always "hey we can make money with this ourselves" / "hey we can control this ourselves"

- infiltrate the community, promote a fork with far more institutional controls and structure

- naysayers and those not up for the new agenda: discredit and destroy that community. Deploy resources to make that happen, after all they have limitless resources.

Seems a pretty typical playbook...
