Why the author doesn't call out widely for assistance even if physically threatened/assaulted, but choosing to avoid all confrontations instead?

Passive behavioral trait. Shyness, unwillingness to engage in confrontation, I can empathize.
My impression was more passive-aggresive with a large dose of narcissism.
I didn't get that based on the fact that he moved to a whole other place where he felt safe. No one goes through that kind of hassle without having a good reason. His later actions justify or make me believe his story about the assault.
