Every new technology needs firing up, which means hype it and hope some people can do something usefull with it. It's hard to imagine new technology without hype, how else can a large group of people be aware of it existing at all?

The Amish decide 200 years ago 'lets stick with current technology'. It works, they have houses, food, friends, a living.

Why go further? This topic is almost existential :)
