I happen to share your skepticism about a mitochondrial origin for this syndrome, though I am not familiar with the research (would appreciate a review on the topic - I saw one linked earlier in the comments from BMC Genetics that seemed to conclude that mitochondria are not involved). > You are very assertive, but this proves that you don't know what you are talking about. I also found this confusing when I first learned about it, but some antibiotics work by directly killing organisms (i.e., are bacteriocidal) whereas others simply block the ability of bacteria to grow (i.e., are bacteriostatic).
