This is a real problem, and one that is difficult to address. San Jose's MLK Library (also shared with San Jose State University) is the day time destination for much of the city's homeless population. Who can blame them -- it's a safe cool place to stay and sleep during the day. Unfortunately, this limits the space that is available for people to work and study. There have also been two suicides in the past year (people jumping from the 7th floor balcony into the central atrium -- it's now being walled off to prevent this). |
