Ask HN: How do you monitor your evolution?

Periodically i ask myself if i had improved since the last time in had the previous "instrospection", the answer i give my self i often emotional to the moment and not commensurate by real-objective evidences.

How do you deal with this kind of "monitoring" ? How do you know that the answer is not obfuscatend by your EGO or your excess of hubleness ?

I'm talking about my job, programming/software architecting but it could be interesting in applyingto many aspects of life
