The metric system was first adopted during the French revolution. Why would they base the meter on the british foot? The pied du roi was 324.84mm compared to the UK 296 mm. Same comment for temperatures. Both scale emerge around the time (mid 1700s). It's not like people switched from Fahrenheit to Celcius... |
