A refubrished computer can be of two types:

It was used as an exposition device in a store, so it's "new" but with some wear of being turned on all day, etc. When is removed from display it is checked and if everything works fine it is put on sale.

Or it's a returned device that had some faulty component that has been replaced.

The advantages compared with an used device is that refubrished are more or less "new" and have warranty.
