Some companies just love fast-talking engineers because they sound like they know what they're doing. Some engineers spend a lot of effort trying to project a specific image of themselves at the expense of bringing up the morale of others in their team. On a few occasions, I've seen an engineer tear apart the work of another engineer at a team meeting in order to make themselves look good and more senior in front of their boss - Often, the critique is delivered with such vigour that it sounds rehearsed. I've seen this behaviour in startups mostly. |
