This idea that a billionaire is being persecuted because people wrote articles about a SuperPAC he started in order to manipulate public opinion is ludicrous. Playing devil's advocate may be intellectually satisfying for you but I believe it damages the discourse by presuming a fundamental equality between the two sides, as if this is all just a game and there is no right and wrong. Your perspective here is, essentially, nihilistic. You steadfastly refuse to make a value judgement on the people you are defending.
