Google Keep. It lacks formatting, but it's readily available on all platforms.

Agreed.. Google notes is currently on my watch list. I am sure they would come up with more features..

Why not use Google Docs if you want Google notes with more features? I do and it works great except for my general NSA paranoia.

It's great being able to simultaneously edit a document from the PC and on your phone.
