When I left school, I got the deputy-head, during an official meeting to state that they didn't teach computer science because they were afraid of what the pupils might do.
If I was a teacher in that sort of scenario, I think I'd go ahead and teach the pupils, and take it as a challenge to keep on top of their hacks. I'm guessing it could be a lot of fun and all parties involved would probably learn quite a bit.
