I struggled with this for a while too, but I quickly realized spending time with the family is a lot more fun than side projects. Also, I'm surprised no one has suggested daylighting [1] yet, it can be a reasonable option if your employer pays you to deliver instead of keeping a chair warm for 8 hours.
