It definitely requires a change in your mental state at home. It goes from "my place of relaxation" to constant anxiety about whether you should be working. Unless you start with the mindset that you will now always be working, you won't be as productive from home. Maybe once you get some experience you can lighten up a bit, and you should always keep some off-time scheduled for the weekend, but as they say, you can't go home again. And good for some people for not wanting to trade that (along with typically a lower salary and opportunity) for having to show up 8~6.

This is not a universal truth: I have worked remotely for nearly a decade and have no issues separating work from personal. When I type "/me → EOD" into IRC or slack, that's it. My focus shifts to personal tasks.
