Actually, I'd skip the super-loose socks and go for a pair of compression stockings instead (and some aspirin before I go), with slightly loose, thick woollen socks on the outside for warmth and comfort. Feet get cold, and deep vein thrombosis is a risk on long flights. Why compression stockings? They reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis during air travel.
