	I'm working through a book on functional web development with Elixir, OTP, and Phoenix (search that string and you'll find it) and I started thinking about how this language and "platform" had come about. I'd like to know more. Any recommendations?

Not a book but you should definitely watch Erlang the movie. It's on YouTube. Then watch erlang the movie 2, it's hilarious.
