Small sans-serif body text means you hate your readers. Making it grey means you really hate them.

And to add insult to injury, for some reason Reader Mode in Safari doesn't appear to work on this site either (MacOS).

I dare to agree. The site is basically unreadable on mobile which is frustrating as the topic is really interesting.
