I disagree with those saying that this is a good comparison. Telephone companies were not regulated because they were addictive, but rather because they are a public utility. Facebook possesses none of the characteristics of a public utility: -Supplies an essential good or service -Prohibitively expensive to replicate/enormous initial investment -Inelastic demand -Region-specific -Few or zero consumer alternatives |
