That is a nice addition that should be used more often. On this site the abbreviations were common, but many articles use obscure, domain-specific, or non-standard abbreviations, where the full name "tool-tips" would be extremely useful in making the info accessible to a wider range of readers. Most of the time the full name is something I recognize. Problems arise because abbreviated names frequently collide, a short identifier can apply to several different things especially across fields. Even a list at the end of the piece would be better than having to hunt around trying to find out what was meant in a particular context. |
