Well the saying is typically '9 to 5' which is 8 hours total. Everything varies of course, but I think that's the most common.

Thats the normal in e.g the U.S but in sweden we say '8 to 5' about the "normal workday" (actually 8-17 of course but you get the point).

So in reality the standard work day is 8-12 plus 13-17 so 8h work in 9h total.

What status does that give lunch? Is ut unpaid like in sweden so you work 8paid + 1unpaid hours in those 9?
