While I understand this, I think it's a mistake. His company faced a huge backlash because of an implied endorsement by his involvement in the council. It was kind of a PR nightmare. But wanting him off the council is short-sighted. You can't change anything by refusing to participate. You need a seat at the table and you need to engage in discussion. Present your arguments. Make them see your side. By choosing to disengage, he's removed his voice from the equation. That won't bring any benefits at all. The correct move would have been to issue a statement saying "I disagree with Trump's actions. I think they're heinous and anti-American. And I will use my position on his council to make my voice, and the voice of my employees, heard." Though I'm not sure such a statement would have appeased the #deleteuber crowd. |
