By and large, the industry is embracing open source (BSD, MIT, Apache licenses), but not FSF-style free software (GPL).

Because it allows them to outsource development, cutting costs in software licenses, without contributing anything back to those communities.

I am yet to work with any employer, besides the time spent at CERN, that bothered to contribute anything back to the community.

Many times the idea of even suggesting it was frowned upon.
