The message is: Please stop believing in nonsense conspiracy theories which have no basis in reality.

If there was a story here backed up by facts it would be covered by the NYT.

Conspiracy websites, 4chan, Reddit and Twitter detectives are not in fact based in reality when it comes to this story.
