I see and draw informal UML-lish diagrams on whiteboards and napkins. I'd say 90 percent of them are sort of like the class diagram in UML. The rest are sorta-collaboration-diagrams and maybe-sequence-diagrams. We'd probably draw something similar even if UML never existed but I think it helped a bit in creating the common vocabulary. So I'd say there is some benefit to teaching UML at university. |
