I think in order for you to 'sue' someone - they have to be negligent. For the same reason generally passengers don't sue airline companies when something goes wrong. There is an unbelievable amount of energy and money that goes into safety ... so much so that flying would probably be 1/4 the cost if they simply didn't care that much about it, and so there's a degree of 'public goodwill' in the whole thing. I think the 'moral' issues will come down to scenarios wherein the computer has to make a decision like: do I swerve and kill my 2 passengers, or hit the car in front of me head-on and kill it's 2 passengers: pick one of two outcomes. I think this is the moral dilemma that is already coming up. |
